Final Disposition at Trial – February 26, 2026

Accused: Marites Brown of Windsor, Ontario
Facts: On June 26, 2025, two charges under the Canada Elections Act, as well as a charge under the Criminal Code, were sworn in the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Windsor. The charges resulted from an investigation into events surrounding the 44th federal general election in 2021.
Offences: Under the Canada Elections Act, Marites Brown was charged with:
  • submitting an incomplete campaign return; and
  • depositing a cheque from Elections Canada in the amount of $18,319.40 in their personal bank account instead of the campaign bank account.

Under the Criminal Code, she was charged with:

  • committing theft of a value of more than $5,000, which belonged to the candidate’s electoral campaign.
Plea: On February 26, 2026, Marites Brown pleaded guilty to charges 1 and 3; charge 2 was withdrawn.
Sentence: Marites Brown received a six-month conditional sentence to be served in the community, with three years of probation, full restitution of the amount of $18,319.40, and 60 hours of community service.
