Commissioner of Canada Elections Announces the Laying of
Canada Elections Act Charges
Ottawa, August 30, 2013
- The Commissioner of Canada Elections, Mr. Yves Côté, has announced that pursuant to a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions, his office has laid charges on seven counts under the Canada Elections Act.
- The charges were filed on August 1, 2013, in the Court of Québec in Laval. The accused, Jacques Chouinard, official agent of a candidate in the 39th federal general election in the electoral district of Alfred-Pellan, will appear before the court on October 17.
- The Commissioner of Canada Elections is responsible for ensuring that the Canada Elections Act and Referendum Act are complied with and enforced. The Chief Electoral Officer appoints the Commissioner under the Canada Elections Act.
