When Should I Complain?
Signs on Private Property
The Act does not:
- permit removing or impairing election advertising
The Act does:
- permit owners of private residential property who have unwanted signs placed on their lawn, to remove the sign themselves.
- permit public authorities to remove signs that are placed unlawfully (with reasonable notice before removal) or signs that are a hazard to public safety (without prior notice)
If you are unsure whether or not the sign is on private or public property, you are advised to contact your municipality before removing the sign.
