When Should I Complain?
The Act requires:
- that the person in control of a building (eg. condominiums) allow door to door canvassing between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the election period.
- that the person in control of a multiple-residence building (eg. university dormitory or retirement home), must allow campaigning in a common area* between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the election period.
In rare circumstances, the person in control of a multiple-residence building can prevent campaigning in common areas of the building if the residents' physical or emotional well-being may be harmed by the activity.
*The term "common areas" refers to an area or areas that may be used by all occupants of, and visitors to, a building (eg. lobby, hallways, stairwells, outdoor areas). It does not apply to areas that are part of the premises of the unit and not accessible to other building residents, such as balconies.
