When Should I Complain?
Automated Messages
Generally speaking, the Act does:
- permit automated messages (eg. calls, texts) made by, or on behalf of, candidates or political parties.
The Act does not:
- permit messages that falsely claim to originate from Elections Canada or from a political entity or that attempt to mislead or prevent electors from voting. These should be reported immediately.
The Canadian-Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) administers and enforces a number of regulations that may apply during the pre-election and election periods:
