When Should I Complain?
Time off work to vote
Eligible electors are entitled to three consecutive hours while polls are open to cast their vote on election day. If the elector’s hours of work do not allow for three consecutive hours to vote, their employer must allow them the time off to vote without deducting from their pay. However, the employer has the right to decide when the time off will be granted.
For some employees in the transportation industry, exceptions may apply under limited circumstances. A detailed list of these conditions can be found on Elections Canada’s website.
