Final Disposition at Trial – September 11, 2017

Accused: Martial Boudreau of Sainte-Rose, New Brunswick
Facts: On January 18, 2017, two charges were sworn under the Canada Elections Act in the Provincial Court of New Brunswick in Tracadie-Sheila. The charges resulted from an investigation into events that took place during the 42nd general election in 2015.
Offence:

Martial Boudreau was charged with:

  • wilfully altering, defacing or destroying a ballot; and
  • taking a ballot out of the polling station.
Plea: On September 11, 2017, Martial Boudreau pleaded guilty to both charges.
Sentence: A total fine of $1000 ($500 for each charge).
The judge granted Mr. Boudreau a period of 2 years to pay the fine.
