Final Disposition at Trial – July 21, 2020

Accused: Ilia Borodov
Facts: On February 13, 2020, two charges under the Canada Elections Act were filed in the Ontario Court of Justice, in the City of Toronto. The charges related to an investigation that took place following the 42nd federal general election in 2015.
Offence: Ilia Borodov was charged with:
  • voting, knowing that he was not yet a Canadian Citizen and thus not qualified as an elector; and
  • applying to be registered to vote knowing that he was not yet a Canadian Citizen and thus not qualified as an elector.
Plea: On July 21, 2020, Ilia Borodov plead guilty to the first charge. The second charge was withdrawn.
Sentence: Ilia Borodov received a $750 fine, payable within 60 days.
