Final Disposition at Trial – February 4, 2019

Accused: Mai Huong Le Ngoc of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Facts: On October 29, 2018, four charges were sworn under the Canada Elections Act in the Provincial Court of British Columbia in Port Coquitlam. The charges resulted from an investigation into events that took place during the 42nd federal general election in 2015.
Offence: Mai Huong Le Ngoc was charged with:
  • requesting a second ballot, after having already voted in the 42nd federal general election by special ballot;
  • knowingly making a false statement in a declaration signed by her before a deputy returning officer;
  • knowingly applying at the same election for another ballot to which she was not entitled;
  • having in her possession a ballot, knowing that she was without authority to do so.
Plea: On February 4, 2019, Mai Huong Le Ngoc pleaded guilty to the first charge.
Sentence: A fine of $500, payable by October 31, 2019.
