Charges withdrawn – February 3, 2022

Accused: Anderanik Pakbegi, from Toronto, Ontario
Facts: On September 24, 2020, two charges were sworn under the Canada Elections Act in the City of Toronto. The charges resulted from an investigation by the Commissioner of Canada Elections for offences related to the qualification for electors.
Offence: Anderanik Pakbegi was charged with voting knowing that he was not qualified as an elector. He was also charged with applying to register to vote in the electoral district of Don Valley East knowing that he was not qualified as an elector.
Results:
  • As part of the legal proceedings, the file was referred to the Commissioner of Canada Elections by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) pursuant to subsection 517(7) of the Act.
  • On December 3, 2021, Anderanik Pakbegi entered into a compliance agreement with the Commissioner.
  • On February 2, 2022, the two counts against Anderanik Pakbegi were withdrawn by the Crown.
