Key facts of violation

As the financial agent for Neelam Brar, a Liberal Party of Canada contestant in the electoral district of Edmonton West during the 2019 nomination campaign, Preetkamal Brar was required, by virtue of subsection 476.75(7) of the Act, to file the Nomination Contestant's Campaign Return (Return), and provide the required documents within four months after the selection date. The deadline to submit the Return was February 21, 2020.

Elections Canada has confirmed that the Return was submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer on April 15, 2021, 418 days after the deadline. There are therefore reasonable grounds to believe that Preetkamal Brar failed to provide the Return within four months after the selection date, as required by subsection 476.75(7).
